Compassion Atlanta

Compassion Atlanta

Overview:
Currently there are approximately 2,600 grassroots organizations providing social services to the needy and disadvantaged populations in Atlanta’s 13-county metro area. Of this number, approximately 25% are referred to by President Bush as our nations “Armies of Compassion” – basically, faith-based organizations whose major focus is in meeting the needs of the poor and disadvantaged by helping to eradicate drugs, poverty, homelessness, unemployment, and crime in our communities. Even so, in spite of this vast “army” of benevolent care organizations in metro-Atlanta…why are we not seeing a greater impact? Why is there not more progress in the eradication of the aforementioned societal ills?

There are many reasons we could site. No doubt, lack of heart and desire to help is not among them, but often lack of finances, staff, operational and organizational “know-how” is. What is the overall effect of this financial and operational “lack”? Higher costs, leadership / staff burnout and decreased program effectiveness – which leads to a lower number of needy/disadvantaged people being helped – which in turn leads to an overall lessened impact.

Mission:
Compassion Atlanta seeks to become a Coalition of highly effective, knowledgeable and interconnected benevolent care organizations working alongside one another to eradicate the presence of poverty and its associated effect in metro-Atlanta and North Georgia.

Vision:
We seek to accomplish this vision through the channeling of supplies, technical assistance support, financial assistance, intern/volunteer linkage and coalition building activities that enable grassroots, benevolent care organizations to provide better services (in quality, quantity and cost-effectiveness) to the needy and disadvantaged in their communities. To accomplish this goal we ask our coalition member ministries to pay a small fee to receive food and hygiene products on a bi-weekly basis.
